Changing Opinions on FENTY BEAUTY
When I heard that Rihanna came out with a makeup line, I couldn’t help but think of the Kardashians and their make up lines… I never gave in to Kim’s highlight & contour line because I didn’t see how it differed or was more ‘exclusive’ than other brands. I love Rihanna but I’m not a diehard fan or obsessed with her at all (like many are) so I just thought it was another celebrity makeup line with really cute packaging and amazing marketing… and then I decided to give it a try.
My first purchase was the highlighter – I bought it in the shade Mean Money & Hu$tla Baby. When I opened the packaging I was really surprised as the plastic clamshell casing was heavier and better quality than I was expecting.. and the highlighter itself was gorgeoussss. I based the colour choice of off the arm swatches on models on the sephora.ca website. I loaded my brush up with hu$stla baby… wiped it across cheek and… UMMM I was shocked. I was just going to the doctor’s office and I looked like a fricken glam dewy goddess. This stuff was amazing. I’m not 100% sold on the Mean Money shade because it’s not super pigmented but I like using it on my eyelids!
The highlighter hooked me instantly so I immediately bought the travel friendly portable highlighter brush. It’s the absolute perfect size, and I love brushes that have a cover to them because I travel often and I’m a germaphobe haha. The brush is beautiful, the bristles are soft and a soft pink colour… truly gorgeous! I was happy with these two purchases but I knew I needed to try more, and I really wanted to see if she had a shade that fit me.
I went into Sephora to test the profilt’r foundation for myself. I first tried the 100 level foundations and noticed that they were too light (it’s impossible to guess your own skin tone apparently…) but after some testing by applying it to the bottom of my cheeks, I quickly found my match in shade 250, medium with warm undertones. There is NO way that anyone would not be able to find their perfect shade within her 40 options. I was so glad to finally have a foundation that matched my skin & undertones as I usually find things looking too pink on me.
I bought the foundation on a whim without actually trying it on my full face. If you know me, you know I’m picky af about my skin. I googled it and realized that the fenty foundation was non comedogenic, and works well even under humid temperatures and sweat. Hallelujah. When I put the foundation on I was SO surprised. It makes your skin look airbrushed but still real and never cakey… it’s a medium coverage foundation which I love because full coverage is just too intense. I’m still not going to use the foundation everyday, just for special occasions, but it would definitely be light enough to wear everyday. I’m still using the highlighter over my BB cream and it suits a healthy, everyday look!
I’m so glad I tried out this brand without my prejudgement getting in the way! Comment if you’ve tried and what your fav products are… I can’t see the gloss or mattifying papers to be anything special… let me know though!
